Defenders Recognizes NJP President

September 25, 2008

On September 25, Defenders of Wildlife recognized NJP President Diana Hadley with the Spirit of Defenders Award for Citizen Advocacy at its second annual wildlife conservation awards dinner in Washington, D.C. Well-recognized as a leading expert on the history of land use and ecological change in the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico, Diana has been a dedicated leader in citizen efforts to protect and restore the endangered jaguar. As a co-founder of NJP, she was instrumental in securing funds to purchase the 35,000-acre Rancho Zetasora to further promote jaguar conservation in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. The Spirit of Defenders awards – given each year for public service, science, and citizen advocacy – honor innovative and significant accomplishments in wildlife conservation. Congratulations, Diana – the jaguar needs more defenders like you!
